WHAT IS THE ESSENTIAL BASIS OF THE WISDOM TRADITION?Wisdom is found in the heart and soul of every person. All people have equal access to the Truth of Wisdom. There are no “gurus” and no special revelations. What becomes known to one can become known to all. The path of Wisdom if followed diligently will lead the aspirant to the realization of divinity. The goal of Wisdom teaching is to not only to transform the individual, but also to transform communities, societies, cultures and eventually the planet Earth. We begin our Bible journey by proclaiming the existence of a universal spiritual Wisdom that dwells within each person. This Wisdom was placed into the individualized soul at the beginning of time. This Spirit of Wisdom, known in the Old Testament as Sophia and in the New Testament as Logos, is available to us at different levels of comprehension. First, it teaches us to reason and intellectually understand with the mind. Secondly, it teaches us to understand ethically and to embody spiritual values and principles. Thirdly, it opens our heart to the healing power of love. But most importantly, it will, if we are open, guide us and direct us to live from our divinity, the Principle of Wisdom Itself We use certain guidelines in our interpretation of the Bible based on Wisdom. They are: 1. God is and God is all there is. 2. Unity is true and duality is false. 3. The Bible is the story of the evolving relationship between Universal Spirit and the individual human. It provides a spiritual map, which, if followed, allows human nature and spiritual nature to merge into One Divine Nature. 4. Spirit is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent and manifests as the divine attributes of light, peace, beauty, love, power, joy and life. 5. There is a divine evolutionary impetus or force in the universe called "the Will of God." It is the impetus of love expressing as greater and greater degrees of livingness. It is a flow of divinity, in the West called the Holy Spirit, in the East called the Tao. 6. Individuals have free will and can therefore choose to be in harmony with "the will of God" or to choose against it. 7. All individuals are unique and sacred expressions of God. 8. The purpose of human life on the planet Earth is to learn how to take dominion and responsibility and to learn how to love in relationships. All individuals have special and unique gifts. We are to discover our gifts and give them away. 9. The Bible is a spiritual road map that enables us to discover and use eternal spiritual principles in the process of living the fulfilled life.
