The Hidden Power of the Bible

"As far as the world is concerned, we are a Christian denomination and we wish to be; ... we are Christian insofar as we follow the teachings of the Bible and of Jesus, but we are not Christian theologians, because we do not accept what has been attached to it by theology . . . We don’t believe in devils, in hell, in purgatory or limbo; we don’t believe God chose some people to reveal something to, and didn’t to others, because that is ridiculous.  We believe in divine patterns, and not divine plans."

"We are a Christian denomination. . . . we believe in Jesus -- and we believe in Buddha too; we believe in Socrates; we believe in Abraham Lincoln!  And more than everything else, we believe in our own soul -- the only immediate testimony you and I will ever have that we exist or that God exists or that Jesus showed us a way.  We believe in every Wayshower.

We are the first Christian denomination to be free from superstition, dualism, and dogma."

Ernest Holmes, Ideas of Power

The inspiration of Ernest Holmes has reached hundreds of thousands of readers through his classic works, many of which are just now becoming available in paperback. Originally published in 1929 as The Bible in Light of Religious Science, this exegesis on the hidden lessons of some of Scripture's best-known verses has been largely unavailable-and even unknown-since the 1940s. Indeed, this edition comes as a brand-new work to the many readers of Ernest Holmes. It is fully reset and redesigned, published for the first time with an index, and includes a new preface to frame the book for the contemporary reader.

The Hidden Power of the Bible by Ernest Holmes begins with readings from the Old Testament, focusing on the metaphysical interpretation of the creation story from Genesis in straightforward, simple English.

Participation in this class will give the student the opportunity to put into perspective some of the ideas from Christianity that have troubled the modern world and each student will develop a New Thought perspective on the Bible as understood by Religious Science founder, Dr. Ernest Holmes.  While first published in 1929, The Hidden Power of the Bible teaches original New Thought Bible study brilliantly and remains contemporary:

Christian cultural themes, however misunderstood, still weave their way through all aspects of modern daily life.  The context of a New Thought understanding of the Bible empowers the individual to encounter life directly, to trust ones intuition and intelligence and to know the mystical truth of ones being.  The power that Jesus used lies within each of us as well!  Students will explore how we can we use this power for good moment by moment in our lives, just as Jesus did.  Join us for this thoughtful investigation of Biblical teachings.
