Emerson welcomes all to our Institute who desire to grow spiritually regardless of race, creed, or ethnic background.

ENROLLMENT
Since many of our courses are not confined to a classroom, when you are ready, we are ready for you! There is no need to wait for the next semester to start, unless you are taking one of our scheduled classroom courses.

In addition, if you plan to work on a degree program with us, you will have the unique opportunity to design an individualized program with the assistance of our staff.

ACCREDITATION
Emerson Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Commission International For Schools, Colleges and Theological Seminaries. The Commission has its executive offices in Beebe, AK. and currently accredits 130 schools and college in 33 states and in several countries on five continents.

CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS STUDY
The Institute will give credit for previous studies successfully completed through other schools and, in some situations, work experience, seminars, and workshops related to the major field of study. To receive credit for previous studies, transcripts from other schools, certificates, of attendance form seminars and workshops with hours of attendance, must be included with the Application for Admission.

Degree Programs

BACHELOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES

Semester Units Required: 120

SECTION A: PRACTICAL SPIRITUALITY
Required Courses

Practical Spirituality - PS 100 6 units (One-Half of the One Year Course in Practical Spirituality or SOM 101 through SOM 104)

Practical Spirituality - PS 200 6 units (One-Half of the One Year Course in Practical Spirituality or 6 Units of Science of Mind coursework)

Practical Spirituality - PS 300 7 units (Online Practitioner Course)

Practitioner or Ministerial Internship - 7 units

SECTION B: KNOWLEDGE COURSES
Semester Units Required: 40
Content: These courses examine the spiritual, philosophical, historical, scientific, and social ideas and thinkers past and present.

SECTION C: SELF-ACTUALIZATION
Semester Units Required: 40
Content: Self-Actualization is the application of the knowledge and spiritual principles in personal growth activities and practices. The courses focus on ways that the student can achieve the realization of oneness with God and all creation.

SECTION D: PROJECT/THESIS
Semester Units Required:10
Content:

SECTION E: QUALIFYING EXAMS

Unit Value: One unit is equal to 12 hours of instructional and at least 3 hours of home study per instructional hour.

Course Substitution: Practical Spirituality courses shown in Section A will not be waived or substituted. Students may submit proposals to substitute for other courses.

Master of Religious Studies

Semester Units Required 36 

Prerequisites: Bachelor's Degree, PS-100, PS-200, PS-300.

SECTION A-12 units
SECTION B-9 units
SECTION C-9 units
SECTION D-6 units

Section A:  Practical Spirituality Classes.  (12 semester units) 

Each affiliated campus has the discretion to determine the appropriate classes to offer under this section.  Courses of  study are offered which embrace topics such as advanced studies in spiritual principles, the mental equivalent, spiritual mind treatment, meditation and others which focus treatment on applying spiritual principles to our life’s journey.

Section B: Knowledge Courses.  (9 semester units)

Each affiliated campus has the discretion to provide courses of study  which it deems appropriate under this section.  Knowledge courses generally include courses that provide information about specific New Thought concepts, religion,  philosophical  ideas  or biographies.

Courses of study embracing such topics as comparative religions, spiritual origins of new thought, and new thought Bible interpretation may also be included in this section.  Included are courses of study which are developed using the themes of published books which focus on New Thought philosophical ideas such as, “ The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People” by Covey, “ The Seven Laws of Success” by Chopra, etc.

Section C: Self-Actualization Courses.  (9 semester units)

This section includes courses which enhance the individual’s inner development.  Subjects include higher consciousness, prosperity meditation, Zen, self-awareness, relationship, leadership, etc.

Section B and Section C courses of study may be interchanged at the discretion of  the affiliated campus.  In many cases the specific course of study may fall into either category.

If the satellite campus feels it appropriate to offer more Section C type courses rather than Section B, then those classes will meet the knowledge course requirements of Section B.

 Section D: Project or Professional Paper.  (6 semester units)

The student must receive prior approval from the affiliated campus.  The affiliated campus will notify Emerson Institutes in writing as to the title of the project or professional paper.  This will be included in the student’s file.

Note: Unit Fee- 6 semester units x $100= $600.00

The unit fee must be included with the final paper/project when submitted to Emerson Headquarters for review and evaluation. 

Section E: Written and Oral Examinations

The affiliated campus or department will notify Emerson Institute when the student is ready to take qualifying examinations.  Included with the request will be certification that the student has completed all course requirements.   A list of all courses taken, date of completion and grades assigned must be included along with the appropriate fee.

Emerson Institute will provide forms that accommodate the aforementioned documentation.

Upon receipt, Emerson Institute will forward the examinations to the affiliated campus along with instructions as to proctoring and administration of the tests.

DOCTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES

Prerequisites: Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree,PS-100, PS-200, PS-300.

Semester Units Required: Total of 74 as follows:

  • SECTION A -Advanced Practical Spirituality Classes-18 units
  • SECTION B- Knowledge Classes -  24 units
  • SECTION C- Self-Actualization Classes - 24 units
  • SECTION D- Project or Paper - 8 units
  • SECTION E- Written and Oral Exams

Credential Programs

Note: Practitioner and Ministerial Licenses are issued by Churches and Centers only. Students will receive a Certificate of Completion from Emerson Institute which is recognized by ANTN Centers and Churches.

PRACTITIONER CREDENTIAL

Prerequisites:

Practical Spirituality - PS 100 6 units (One-Half of the One Year Course in Practical Spirituality or SOM 101 through SOM 104)

Practical Spirituality - PS 200 6 units (One-Half of the One Year Course in Practical Spirituality or 6 Units of Science of Mind coursework)

All courses described below:

  1. Practical Spirituality - PS 300 (7 units)

  2. Practitioner's Handbook - PS 302 (1 unit)

  3. Minimum One Year of Mentored Practitioner Internship (6 units)

  4. Five Case Histories

  5. Five letters of recommendation showing three successful treatments

  6. Pass the Written Practitioner Exam

  7. Pass the Oral Practitioner Exam

  8. Successful Minimum One Year Internship

  9. Sign the Practitioner Code of Ethics

 

MINISTERIAL CREDENTIAL

Prerequisites: PS 100, PS 200, PS 300 (19 units total)

200 Hours of instruction required

Content:

  • 24 hours of Spiritual Origins of New Thought
  • 24 hours of World Religions
  • 12 hours of Bible Review and interpretation
  • 72 hours of How to Teach Science of Mind
  • 12 hours of The Consciousness of the Ministry
  • 24 hours of Effective Public Speaking
  • 32 hours of Church Services Program
  • Pass the Written Exam
  • Pass the Oral Exam
 

ENROLLMENT AND COURSE REGISTRATION

Prior to taking accredited programs, students must have first enrolled in Emerson by filling out an Application for Student Enrollment form and paying the one-time enrollment fee of $150.
