"There
is an instinctive seeking of all things for love."
"When
the Lord is your confidence you will never find yourself at all deceived by
the ways and speech of men and women, though they be very brilliant, if they
speak outside of the Principle that demonstrates healing and goodness and
life."

Scientific
Christian Mental Practice
was published nearly 100 years ago by the
High Watch Fellowship in Connecticut by a series of Hopkins' students and
teaching associates who wished to continue with their studies after
Hopkins' death. It had an earlier incarnation in various lessons published
in a wide variety of periodicals.
Scientific
Christian Mental Practice discusses the practical
application of metaphysical science as exemplified most particularly by Jesus
Christ, but with varying degrees of understanding by all true metaphysicians. This
Principle works not because of its identification with Jesus Christ, but because
it is the essence of Truth. If you have heard someone you know speak
of "keeping the high watch," you can assume that they,
or someone important to them, has read Emma Curtis Hopkins.

"That
"teacher of teachers," Emma Curtis Hopkins, who had earlier bolted
from the Eddy stable, was busy teaching a veritable "Who’s Who" of
eventual New Thought 1eaders at her own Christian Science Theological Seminary
in Chicago. Two women students, Malinda Cramer, from San Francisco, and Nona
Brooks, from Pueblo, Colorado, along with Nona’s two sisters would work
throughout the decade to finally establish the First Divine Science Church in
1899.
Two other Hopkins
students, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, starting from humble beginnings in Kansas
City, would take a little known publication entitled Christian Science
Thought and transform it over the decade into the influential New Thought
organ, Unity. It was in the 1890s that the Fillmores laid the foundation
for the most successful New Thought religious organization in America today, the
Unity School of Christianity. And finally, though just a boy, Ernest
Holmes, founder of Religious Science, was busy honing his visionary skills at
Gould’s Academy in Bethel, Maine."

A Classic of Practical
Mysticism, January 12, 2000
Reviewer: Rev. Lloyd Strom from California
This volume is a classic
in the field of practical mysticism. It provides a modern interpretation of
the teachings of Jesus Christ. However, the author presents them in the
context of a deep mystical understanding of all of the world's great
spiritual traditions. Written at the beginning of the 20th century, this
book today is still about 100 years ahead of its time. Emma Curtis Hopkins
was known as the "Teacher of Teachers." Here's what her student
Charles Fillmore, the founder of Unity, had to say about her: "She is
undoubtedly the most successful teacher in the world. In many instances
those who enter her classes confirmed invalids come out at the end of the
course perfectly well. Her very presence heals and those who listen are
filled with new life. Never before on this planet have such words of burning
Truth been so eloquently spoken through a women."
Another reviewer:
Hopkins was a dedicated
teacher and healer whose students included Ernest Holmes - founder of
Science of Mind/Religious Science Movement, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore -
founders of Unity School of Christianity, and the founders of: Divine
Science, the Emmanuel Movement, Christ Truth League and Home of Truth. This,
her masterpiece, is one of the greatest of all works based on mysticism.
"When the Lord is your confidence you will never find yourself at all
deceived by the ways and speech of men and women, though they be very
brilliant, if they speak outside of the Principle that demonstrates healing
and goodness and life." (86)
